Problem Statement
22% Of STEM graduates in Nigeria are women, according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics
Globally, women are significantly underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. According to the UNESCO report, ‘Cracking the Code: Girls’ and Women’s Education in STEM’, only 35% of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students in higher education globally are women. The dismal figure can be attributed to a lack of motivation for girls to develop an interest in STEM.

Poster Design Process
In my initial design process, I experimented with bright colors and bold patterns, believing this approach would resonate with teenagers and create a vibrant, engaging visual experience. While the concept was lively and dynamic, I realized the design became too busy, overwhelming the key message and detracting from clarity. This led me to refine my approach, focusing on a cleaner, more balanced aesthetic to maintain visual appeal and effective communication.
Using a white background allowed me to keep the focus on the women while highlighting their Nigerian heritage through diverse cultural garments. I incorporated shapes and objects behind the women to connect them to their professions, aiming to merge culture with career aspirations. However, the elements lacked cohesion, and the overall design did not blend seamlessly, prompting me to explore a more harmonious approach.
